SCHOOL BACKGROUND
Mbekweni Primary school is the second oldest school in the area and is still constructed to the old model of schools of the Republic of South Africa hence there is inadequate facility and infrastructure to meet the requirements of today’s standards (e.g no Computer Laboratory, no Science Laboratory and no School Library). The second Principal, Mr N.A Tsholoba has served the school for 30 years as the head of the institution taking the baton from Mr Diemeng and took his retirement at the end of 2005. He was succeeded by the current Principal, Mr M.N Njenxa.
The building housed the following now established institution of learning respectively: Simon Hebe High School currently known as Desmond Mpilo Tutu Senior Secondary School, Imboniselo Primary School and Ihlumelo Secondary School.
The school is in a previously disadvantaged Community where poverty is rife because of the alarming unemployment rate. This rate implicates us as the school to unwanted crimes such as child abuse, gangsterism, sexual abuse, burglary and vandalism.
Despite limited resources in our disposal and as mentioned in the questionnaire above, the school strives for excellence and both parents and educators have an obligation to strengthen the ties amongst themselves to achieve desired outcomes.
We boat of number of achievements to mention but few, the outstanding performance of our school choir to repeatedly reach the Provincial championships year after year; soccer and rugby teams representing our region in Championships; our school declared as a pilot school ( to accommodate learners with disabilities); educators representing the Province in National Education Summit of Science in two consecutive years; Learners selected for UNICEF (February 2007) to develop our learners in cricket and that included ICC Women’s Cricket players (visit google search for Mbekweni Primary School) and the launch of Sanlam Ubuntu-Botho School Project of February 2009 (visit google search under Sanlam school’s project).
We also have number of persons that are absorbed in high positions in their workplaces who are traced back to have acquired primary school education in the very school. Among others allow us to mention the following: Mr Mike Mgajo who is a former Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality and currently a Municipality Manager at Cape Winelands Districk Municipality; Mr Boyce Godlo who is a owner and Manager of the local huge Supermaket; Mr Jongi Frans who is a Principal of Adult Basic Education (Abet) and Mr Case Msolo who is currently the Deputy Principal of the very school.
The Principal
Mr Njenxa was again promoted to be the Deputy Principal of the school in 2003 where he served until June 2005. He was appointed as the Acting Principal of the same school until December 2005 when he was permanently appointed as the Principal of Mbekweni Primary school.

Educators and Teaching
Our Educators are highly qualified and they have high religious convictions and high quality of professional conduct which is attributed by the maturity being of the individuals. All of them have passion to nourish those learners, minds despite the circumstances that the school is facing as mentioned in the brief history above.
Extra – Curricular Activities
This is an area where we still need to be developed to a s not all educators are taking part thus affecting those that are working tirelessly to achieve good standards.
Local Communities
Most of the staff members are born in the same community making it easy to take part in the Community affairs and the relationship with the local community is sound. Households surrounding the school are assisting us to secure the premises against vandalism.
My primary school. I'm very proud to say that I am one of the products of Mbekweni primary school. This primary paved the way for me, I am the person that I am because of it. I was invloved in pretty much every activity that took place; The Science Expo (hold a Bronze medal in provincial finals), a BBC Ad, Bird project managed by Sue and HP from Tokyo, just to name a few. It might not be resourced, but the principal and the teachers make it a point that they groom future leaders.
ReplyDeleteThe Mbekweni primary school stuff and students are a happy family :)...
I am happy for you and the good time you had at the school.
